Md. Mahan Ul Hoque started his career at BRAC Institute of Governance and Development, BRAC University as a Research Assistant in September 2011 and is now working as a Senior Program Associate. Since joining, his role in BIGD has been multidimensional and he has been involved in research, program and also academics. At present, Md. Mahan Ul Hoque is acting as the ‘National Field Coordinator’ in the Citizen Engagement sub-co6ymponent of “Digitizing Implementation Monitoring and Public Procurement Project (DIMAPPP),” a project initiated by the Government of Bangladesh and funded by the World Bank. Apart from coordinating the field implementation of the project in 48 Upazilas of 16 districts under 8 divisions, Mahan also researches the challenges of implementation to further refine the Citizen Engagement model. He has been also engaged in the institute’s flagship research “State of Cities” since 2015. He also served in academic activities of BIGD, BRAC University as a faculty member, where he taught the Research Methodology course under the Master’s in Procurement and Supply Management (MPSM) program, and also taught different city level training programs.
Prior to joining BIGD, he worked for the Centre for Injury Prevention and Research, Bangladesh (CIPRB) as a Qualitative Researcher. As an Anthropologist, his experience of multitasking and critical analytical skill reflects in his management capacity. Mahan has passion for writing for the general audiences in the newspaper and he has published multiple op-eds on governance issues.
He holds his Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Anthropology from Jahangirnagar University. He also has professional degrees on ‘Resettlement Data Management (RDM)’ and Environmental Management & Governance (EMG) from BIGD, BRAC University. His research interests lie in the areas of social accountability, urban governance and human rights.
