His areas of interest for research and teaching are: democratic theory; peace processes; parties, elections and electoral reforms; political culture; prevention of violence and citizen security; decentralization and local government; demographic changes and their impacts on public policies; and social protection systems. He has a Ph.D. and a Masters in Political Science from the University of Pittsburgh. He obtained his BA in Sociology from the National Autonomous University of Mexico.
