Southern Voice will host its first General Assembly on 14 November 2018 in Bangkok, Thailand. Venue: Sigma (6th Floor), Pullman Bangkok…
With the world facing unprecedented and interconnected challenges, the United Nations is seeking input on the future of multilateralism.
In the Declaration commemorating the United Nations’ 75th anniversary, the General Assembly requested the Secretary-General to report back within a year with “recommendations to advance our common agenda and to respond to current and future challenges.” In their Declaration, Member States identified 12 areas that can only be addressed through reinvigorated multilateralism.
Southern Voice network members were invited to present proposals for the digital consultation called ‘We the Peoples’ that will feed into the “Our Common Agenda” by the UN Secretary-General.
The aim is to generate bold and actionable proposals to strengthen international cooperation. The consultation is facilitated by the Igarapé Institute and partner organizations from different sectors and regions, including Southern Voice.
The consultation aims to gather views from diverse stakeholders on how to accelerate the commitments adopted by the General Assembly to mark the UN’s 75th anniversary.
The report will be informed by consultations with Member States, thought leaders, young thinkers, and public consultations. Think Tanks from Southern Voice will be presenting innovative proposals in this process.
At this time of unprecedented global threats, inputs from the Global South on how to address the post-pandemic challenges are crucial.
