The Secretary-General’s Our Common Agenda (OCA) report centers on promoting a “renewed social contract” and a “new global deal,” placing a strong emphasis on future generations. This essay discusses the framework of said report, the elements that could have been strengthened, and how the report can become catalytic for the UN. Adding the ideas of “global commons” and “global public goods” to the way the UN works could speed up a long-awaited and much-needed reform of the system.
