Southern Voice just joined the Multi-Hazard Resilience Network (MHRN), a new research and response network led by the Institute of Development Studies (IDS) and funded by the United Kingdom’s Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO). The network brings together researchers and partners to strengthen decision-making before, during and after crises, with a focus on natural hazards, infectious disease outbreaks, and cascading and compounding risks. 

Southern Voice will co-lead LINK (Learning, Impact, Networks and Knowledge), the reflexive intelligence function of MHRN, responsible for developing the network’s learning system and strengthening connections between evidence production and evidence use. This includes supporting reflection, adaptive management, knowledge exchange and collaboration across the network. Ultimately, LINK will enable the network to understand its performance and adapt based on these learnings.

Through this collaboration, Southern Voice will produce three Regional Common Agendas (RCAs) and three Collaborative Policy Briefs (CPBs), bringing together Global South expertise on shared priorities, emerging threats and key challenges for crisis preparedness. Our members’ locally grounded research, community connections and relationships with decision-makers will help ensure that regional perspectives and lived experiences shape the network’s research and recommendations. 

For Southern Voice, this collaboration creates an important opportunity to strengthen equity in how knowledge is produced, shared and used in crisis preparedness. We look forward to working with our members and partners to bring Global South perspectives to the heart of efforts to build more resilient, people-centred approaches to future crises.
