Southern Voice and the United Nations Foundation will convene guests on the sidelines of the 2023 High-Level Political Forum to explore what we can learn from the experience of the pandemic to support sustainable, inclusive transformations across the Global South by 2030.

The experience of the pandemic shed light on some of the risks associated with rapid transformations. Southern Voice’s biennial “State of the SDGs” initiative provides timely evidence to understand with precision how certain policies, aiming to mitigate the impact of the pandemic, magnified inequalities.

Ahead of a decisive SDG Summit, this event provides a space to reflect on lessons learned through the pandemic in Africa, Asia, and Latin America and the Caribbean, on how to navigate urgency while ensuring positive outcomes for all.  Speakers from Nigeria, Pakistan, and Peru will introduce some of the common characteristics of policies implemented during the pandemic that contributed to the harsher inequalities we find today. This will invite a dialogue on how we may approach the early stages of transformation across the Global South, ensuring that no one is left behind.
