Care work is critical to sustain life. Typically performed within or for households and by women and girls, it encompasses a wide range of services and activities to address dependency and meet our daily needs. Unpaid care work represents 10-39% of national GDPs around the world. Yet, its value is often unrecognised and neglected. Investing in the care and support economy is not only critical for protecting the rights of those in need of care, caregivers and care workers, but it is also a win-win for the economy.

This event is being held during the G20 Social Summit, presenting a unique opportunity to engage with global stakeholders, foster dialogue and collaboration. The event aims to serve as a platform to elevate the care agenda and enhance collaboration with South Africa, as the G20 presidency transitions to Africa in 2025. The Care20 collective envisions a strong coalition and the mobilisation of voices across the G20 engagement groups. The event will allow the different engagement groups to participate in the panels and present their recommendations to make care a priority, aiming to inform the future G20 presidency with concrete asks and policy proposals.

This event will be available on livestream and in person.
