This introductory session will help participants understand the State of the SDGs initiative. More importantly, it will highlight the importance of understanding the progress of the 2030 Agenda beyond assessing goals and targets and talk about why it should also consider more in-depth transformations that are already taking place.

Former Prime Minister from the Netherlands, Jan Peter Balkenende will give a keynote on how to accelerate the achievement of the SDGs. Afterwards, he will join an interactive panel with the authors of the global report on the ‘State of the SDGs’. The interactive dialogue will be organized in a Davos-style format with Q&A from the audience.

The discussion will focus on the implementation of the 2030 Agenda in Africa, Asia and Latin America. The panelists have analyzed progress on key issues for the implementation, such as the alignment of the national plans with the 2030 Agenda, the financing, and the development of new multi-stakeholder partnerships. The discussion will allow participants to identify priority areas and express the main concerns that affect the implementation of the 2030 Agenda.
