Southern Voice will host its first General Assembly on 14 November 2018 in Bangkok, Thailand. Venue: Sigma (6th Floor), Pullman Bangkok…
Early this year, the Think 20 (T20) initiative started a new round of policy recommendations to direct the 2018 G20 Leader’s Summit policy making process in Argentina. Under the leadership of Consejo Argentino para las Relaciones Internacionales (CARI) and Southern Voice’s (SV) member, Centro de Implementación de Políticas Públicas para la Equidad y el Crecimiento (CIPPEC), 149 Think Tanks worked together throughout the year. They presented a set of proposals in the T20 Communiqué, which was handed in September 2018 to Argentina’s president, Mr. Mauricio Macri.
The T20 Argentina was organized around ten Task Forces that worked on concrete policy challenges. Experts and Think Tank representatives from 60 different countries shared evidence-based views and opinions about policy recommendations. The result was a set of 80 Policy Briefs that tackle different global challenges. Among them: climate change, food security, multilateral trade, global inequality, and others.
Southern Voice was actively involved throughout the entire T20 initiative. SV’s Distinguished Fellow, Dr. Debapriya Bhattacharya, served as member of the Advisory Board. Andrea Ordoñez, SV’s Director, participated as Co-Chair of the T20 Task Force titled “2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development”. Several other SV members co-authored Policy Briefs that are now published on the T20 platform:
- “Improving the G20’s coordination on the delivery and monitoring of the 2030 Agenda”, Andrea Ordoñez (Southern Voice).
- “Economic Empowerment of Rural Women”, Boris Branisa (INESAD).
- “The imperative of Addressing Care Needs for G20 countries”, Gala Diaz (CIPPEC).
- “Financing Quality and Equitable Education in LATAM”, Santiago Cueto (GRADE) and Alejandra Cardini (CIPPEC).
- “Achieving 25 by 25: Actions to make Women’s Labour Inclusion a G20 priority”, Boris Branisa (INESAD), Gala Diaz (CIPPEC) and Margarita Beneke de Sanfeliu (FUSADES).
