Southern Voice is excited to announce that it is officially joining the People’s Vaccine Alliance (PVA). It is a coalition of around 70 organizations and networks, with the support of over 170 former Heads of State, Nobel Laureates, faith leaders, health experts, economists and other notable figures fighting to end vaccine apartheid.

As we start the second semester of 2021, vaccine access in most of the Global South is still too low, while the number of COVID-19 cases and hospitalizations keeps on rising.

“We are proud to contribute to the alliance with Global South expertise on how to end the vaccine inequity that is delaying the end of the pandemic. Joining forces with other organisations and leaders to influence the debate on fair vaccine allocation and the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 3 on good health and well-being, is of utter importance to us”, says Andrea Ordóñez, Director of Southern Voice.

Southern Voice supports the pledge of the People’s Vaccine Alliance to:

  • Ensure the vaccine is purchased at true cost prices and provided free of charge to people.
  • Ensure the vaccine is sold at affordable prices.
  • Prevent monopolies on vaccine and treatment production
  • Implement fair allocation of the vaccine which prioritizes health workers and other at-risk groups in all countries.
  • Ensure full participation of governments in developing countries as well as civil society from north and south in decision-making fora about the vaccines
