Southern Voice is pleased to announce the official appointment of its new Executive Director, Margarita Gómez.

On behalf of the esteemed Steering Committee, I wish to warmly welcome Margarita to Southern Voice. As she steers the network into its next decade, we are excited by the energy and innovative leadership that she brings. We promise her our unwavering support to achieve the network’s objectives,” says Dr Rose Ngugi, Southern Voice Chair and Executive Director of KIPPRA-Kenya.

Margarita Gómez, a Mexican national, brings her behavioural and policy science expertise and more than 15 years of experience to the network. She has worked with governments, international organisations, and key stakeholders to strengthen equitable and inclusive governance and public policies worldwide. Her policy and research work focuses on financial and gender inclusion, integrity and ethics in governments, public security, and public sector transformation.

Before joining Southern Voice, Margarita founded and led the People in Government Lab at the Blavatnik School of Government at Oxford University. Through it, she built strategic alliances with governments from more than 30 countries in Africa, Asia, Europe, and Latin America to improve governments’ capacity to deliver quality public services for all. Prior, she established the first Behavioral Unit at CIDE in Mexico, delivering policy-impact interventions applying behavioural science, people-centred design and the use of technologies.

I’m honoured to join Southern Voice and contribute to the organisation’s next phase. We will work on influencing policy change and boosting collaboration between researchers, practitioners and decision-makers in favour of broad-based security, prosperity and well-being in the Global South. I’m looking forward to working with this remarkable organisation’s affiliated Think Tanks and its extraordinary executive team,” says Margarita Gómez.
