As the Southern Voice network keeps expanding, we proudly welcome four new members from Brazil, Chile, Morocco and South Africa. They grow our total membership to 70 think tanks. Meet the new members joining us:

Institute of Applied Economic Research (IPEA) is a federal public foundation created in 1964 and linked to the Ministry of Planning and Budget in Brazil. Its research activities provide technical and institutional support to government actions for the formulation and reformulation of Brazilian public policies and development programs.

IPEA’s work is made available to society through numerous regular electronic and printed publications and events. It aims to evaluate and propose public policy and programs essential to the country’s development, formulate studies to guide developmental strategies in the medium and long run, assist the state in improving its decision-making quality, and contribute to qualifying the public debates regarding the objectives of the country’s development.

Policy Center for the New South (PCNS) is a Moroccan think tank aiming to contribute to the improvement of economic and social public policies that challenge Morocco and the rest of Africa as integral parts of the Global South. The PCNS pleads for an open, accountable and enterprising “new South” that defines its own narratives and mental maps around the Mediterranean and South Atlantic basins, as part of a forward-looking relationship with the rest of the world.

Through its analytical endeavours, the think tank aims to support the development of public policies in Africa and to give the floor to experts from the South. This stance is focused on dialogue and partnership and aims to cultivate African expertise and excellence needed for the accurate analysis of African and global challenges and the suggestion of appropriate solutions. As such, the PCNS brings together researchers, publishes their work and capitalises on a network of renowned partners, representative of different regions of the world.

South African Institute of International Affairs (SAIIA) is an independent public policy think tank that advances a well-governed, peaceful, economically sustainable, and globally engaged Africa. The institute was established in 1934 by a bipartisan group of politicians, academics, and newspaper editors in Cape Town with the objective of furthering the studies of international affairs in politics, economics, and jurisprudence.

SAIIA underwent its own transition as South Africa moved through its political transition in 1994. Much of the research generated from 1992 to 1994 focused on understanding South Africa’s new position in the world, while conferences stimulated dialogue on the future of South Africa’s foreign policy. As South Africa acquired new confidence in its relations with the rest of the world, SAIIA began to broaden their research agenda to include increased analysis of south-south cooperation
